Building Research Capacity for Public Health Services and Systems Research
Increasing the number of qualified investigators engaged in public health services and systems research is one of the central aims of the NCC, and these awards aim to attract investigators early in their careers to the field of PHSSR. This Call for Proposals offers the sixth round of funding for promising junior investigators whose careers will focus on PHSSR and inform future public health practice.
The Junior Investigator Awards provide a mentored research experience where awardees work closely with prominent PHSSR experts as they begin their careers. These $10,000 awards are available for doctoral candidates or junior faculty who are within three years of their initial faculty appointment. Up to 10 one-year awards are available for the PHSSR awards in 2013.
Up to five of these awards will be mentored by researchers from member networks of the Public Health Practice-Based Research Network (PBRN) program. Click here for more information on the Public Health PBRN program and member networks.
Applications will be submitted through the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's online Application & Review system. If you have not already done so, you will be required to create an account at My.RWJF.org in order to apply.

The National Coordinating Center for PHSSR released the sixth round of funding for the PHSSR Junior Investigator Awards Program in October 2012. This Call for Proposals is available by clicking on the cover page to the right. Applicants are encouraged to save or print a copy of the CFP as they go through the application process.

This Call for Proposals has been designed to encourage junior investigators to develop research questions related to the PHSSR Research Agenda. The agenda addresses questions in the following areas of public health infrastructure:
- Workforce - Defining, educating and training the public health workforce
- Technology, Data and Methods - Technologies and outcomes, performance methods and health outcomes, data availability, dissemination and utility
- Financing - Public health financing and payment mechanisms, costs, performance and outcomes
- Structure and Organization - Public health systems dimensions, key elements and characteristics, performance management and outcomes
Applicants are encouraged to address these research questions using datasets contained in the Public Health Systems Research (PHSR) subset of the National Library of Medicine's (NLM) Health Services Research Resources (HSRR) database.
